“Doctor, doctor give me the news
I’ve got a bad case of lovin’ you
No pill’s gonna cure my ill
I’ve got a bad case of lovin’ you”
Remember that song? Admittedly, I was only 3 when it came out, but I still remember it as I’ve heard it lots of time in commercials. Know who sang it? Robert Palmer came up after a quick search…it’s a fun song!
Usually, going to the doctor is the last thing I want to do, but in today’s blog post, I’m going to introduce you to a doctor and a unique soap recipe you may not have heard of. His name is Dr. Woods and he makes a fabulous natural soap. On second thought, I don’t think he’s an actual person. It’s just the name of the soap! I’ve always been curious about the brand and when I had the opportunity to review it, I was pretty stoked.
Dr. Woods makes a variety of shea butter and black soaps, but the one I tried is Shea Vision. This product is a unique blend of shea butter and black soap, two of my all time favorite skincare ingredients. It’s quite ingenious to blend them together into one product.
Shea butter is an incredible ingredient for the skin. It originates from the Mangifolia tree and the fruit which emerges once a year. Shea butter is super moisturizing and contains vitamins A and E to combat dryness and restore elasticity to the skin. This makes Shea Vision an amazing product for aging skin or as a preventative to skin aging.
I’ve written about the merits of black soap before, but just to refresh your memory, it’s a miracle soap for problem skin. In Dr. Woods variety, the soap is made from the leaves of the plantain tree. Plaintain chips also happen to be one of my favorite gluten free snacks!
Black soap is known to help the appearance of fine lines, evens out dark spots, eczema, razor bumps, and acne.
The sweet thing about this mixture is that you can use it as a body wash and as a face wash. I love double duty products because that means more room in my shower for all the other stuff I use!
Before I agreed to do this review, one of the things that concerned me on their ingredient list was the fragrance. When I see this word, alarm bells ring in my head. It could mean anything, including synthetic hormone altering chemicals. When I asked the Dr. Woods crew, my fears were laid to rest. Their fragrance blend is made of 100% natural essential oils. Whew!
The scent is very pleasant…it’s sorta spicy and woodsy, which makes it the perfect unisex soap. I encouraged my boyfriend to use it so I could ask him what he thought. He really liked it!
Some of the other ingredients are also nourishing for the skin and include: coconut, hemp, and olive oil, vitamin E, and rosemary extract.
A few more features:
- sulfate, paraben, and phthalate free
- no petroleum derivatives
- gluten free
So if you’d like to give this soap made by the other Dr. a try, I’d definitely say give it a go, especially if you’d like to improve the condition of your skin.

It’s also available on fab sites like Vitacost and my favorite, Lucky Vitamin.
Now it’s your turn! Have you tried Dr. Woods soaps before? Which Dr. do you think would win if there was a “soap battle?”
Stay natural…stay beautiful…go green!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
