Do you buy natural lipstick? Are you concerned with gluten in your lipstick?

Back in the day I sure wasn’t! I used to rock my Cover Girl Lip Slicks. Remember those? They came in these long tubes in great sheer colors. Little did I know what I was exposing myself to back then! Lead, mineral oil and other toxins!

When I went organic in my cosmetics, I switched to natural lipstick but it never occurred to me that my lipstick might contain gluten.

A few years back, I was tested and discovered I was gluten sensitive. Gluten is a protein found in grains which when ingested can cause havoc to the body both internally and externally. Wheat germ oil or gluten based Vitamin E is sometimes added to cosmetics to give it more moisture.

The debate is still out whether gluten in cosmetic products like lotion, shampoos actually affect the body internally. I am of the class that thinks, yes it does, so I avoid it in my products.

Did you know there’s gluten in some lipstick brands? Even natural ones? This is especially concurring, since we actually eat our lipstick. We eat and drink with it and it ends up part of our meal.

That’s a bit gross when you think of it, but it’s the truth. So for us gluten sensitive or Celiac afflicted gals, we need to be even more careful with the lip products we choose.

That’s why I was ecstatic to find gluten free Red Apple Lipstick. It’s lab tested 100% gluten free lip products with all natural ingredients. Some lip products claim they’re gluten free without any lab testing to back it up. Not so for RAL.

Their lip products are also tested to be free of parabens, toxins, and soy and are enriched with a gluten free source of Vitamin E.

Here are some more of the things I love about RAL:

  • Made in the USA
  • Made by a small (indie) company
  • Beautiful, vibrant colors
  • More than just lips- they also make lovely mineral eye tints
  • Nourishing & high quality ingredients

Here’s my take on the lip gloss:

I tried RAL gloss in Pink Martini. I love pink lip glosses and now I can truly say this is my favorite lip gloss ever. It’s super shiny with sparkles. It makes your lip shine like a diamond! I love how RAL lists their ingredients online…they have nothing to hide! Here’s the ingredients for this lip gloss:

Palma Christi Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis, Roman Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapeseed) Extract, Hypericum Perforatum (St John’s Wort) Extract, May Contain: Red #7 Lake, Red #6, Red #27, Mica, Iron Oxides

And the lipstick:

I’m not a huge fan of lipsticks as they can be drying…not RAL! After agonizing about which color to go with, I selected Summer Sands…it’s beautiful! It’s the most moisturizing lipstick I’ve ever used and the color is to die for. It’s a sparkly nude shade. It’s the perfect addition to a natural makeup look. Ingredients are:

Ricinus Communis, Octyl palmitate, Ozokerite, Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Cera Alba (Bees) Wax, Olive (Olea Europea) Oil, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuacu) Seed Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate from an all natural non gluten source, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis leaf Extract, Retinyl Palmitate, may contain Titanium Dioxide, Mica, Iron Oxides

If you’re not concerned with gluten in your lipstick, this is still an amazing brand for you to check out. I am very impressed with the quality, the shades, and the staying power.

They even have an awesome discount program where you can trade in your half empty toxic lipstick and get RAL at a reduced price!

Red Apple Lipstick has generously offered a full sized product to one of my lucky readers! You can choose any of their products, including lipstick, lip gloss, lip balm, lip pencils, or eye shadows. Isn’t that awesome?
